Ministry of Education Hosts AI Session at India AI Impact Summit 2026
New Delhi, Feb 17: The Ministry of Education on Tuesday organised a special session titled “Ministry of Education – Pushing the Frontier of AI in India” at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam, highlighting the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing India’s education ecosystem.
Addressing the gathering, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described the Summit as a pathbreaking initiative envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accelerate AI growth in the country. He said AI would power India’s global knowledge leadership and play a crucial role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Emphasising India’s rapid technological progress, Pradhan noted that the world is increasingly looking towards India as it embraces AI at a remarkable pace. “AI in education and education in AI are deeply intertwined,” he said, urging young innovators to harness the technology to educate, empower and create transformative solutions.
Minister of State for Education and Skill Development (Independent Charge) Jayant Chaudhary termed the deliberations at the summit insightful, stating that structured integration of AI across foundational learning, skilling, research and global leadership was discussed in alignment with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. He also visited the Ministry of Education and Skill India pavilions showcasing scalable, India-first AI solutions.
Senior officials including Secretary, School Education & Literacy, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Higher Education, Dr Vineet Joshi, and academic leaders from premier institutions participated in the session.
Over the past decade, the Ministry has laid the groundwork for AI-enabled education through digital platforms, policy reforms, institutional strengthening and capacity-building initiatives across school and higher education.
Following a Budget announcement last year, the government established a Centre of Excellence in AI for Education at IIT Madras. The Ministry has also conducted extensive consultations with academia, industry and civil society to develop a comprehensive roadmap for AI integration in education.
The session featured prominent leaders from academia, industry and investment ecosystems, including Dr. Sridhar Vembu (Zoho Corporation), Dr. Vibhu Mittal (Inflection), Rajan Anandan (Peak XV Partners), Prof. Manindra Agrawal (IIT Kanpur), Prof. V. Kamakoti (IIT Madras), and Prof. Sunita Sarawagi (IIT Bombay). The discussion was moderated by Prof. Manoj S. Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu.
Panel discussions focused on governance frameworks, national learning platforms, indigenous AI innovation, and responsible deployment of frontier AI models to improve education outcomes at scale. The session underscored the need for systemic interventions and stronger collaboration among industry, academia and government to build a sustainable national AI-in-education roadmap.
