Dhoni Confirms 2026 IPL Return, Ruturaj to Resume CSK Captaincy
In a major boost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans, legendary cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has confirmed his participation in the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking at a private event in Chennai, Dhoni also confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad, who missed part of the 2025 season due to injury, will return as captain of the five-time IPL champions next year.

Dhoni, who led CSK in Gaikwad’s absence during the 2025 season, reflected fondly on his deep-rooted connection with Chennai. “This city gave me my first Test match in 2005 and also my first IPL match in 2008. The love, affection, and support I’ve received from Chennai fans are unmatched,” said the iconic former India captain.

Acknowledging the team’s recent challenges, Dhoni admitted that CSK struggled with its batting balance this season. However, he expressed optimism about the squad’s future, particularly with Gaikwad’s return. “We are slightly worried about our batting order. But I think our batting order is quite sorted out now. Rutu will be coming back. He got injured, but he will be back. So, we are quite sorted now,” he stated.

CSK fans, known for their unwavering loyalty, will be buoyed by the news of Dhoni’s continued presence and Gaikwad’s comeback. The team, known for its consistency and legacy, is expected to regroup strongly for the 2026 season under the young skipper’s leadership, with Dhoni playing a guiding role.
