Devika Sihag Enters Maiden Super 300 Final at Thailand Masters
Young Indian badminton player Devika Sihag delivered a stunning performance to reach her maiden BWF Super 300 final at the USD 250,000 Thailand Masters on Saturday, defeating world No. 35 Huang Yu-Hsun in straight games in the women’s singles semifinal.
The 20-year-old unseeded shuttler registered an impressive 22-20, 21-13 victory over the fifth-seeded Taiwanese opponent, showcasing remarkable composure and resilience under pressure. Devika, who clinched her first BWF International Challenge title at the Malaysia International last year, continued her upward trajectory with this breakthrough run on the Super 300 circuit.
The opening game proved to be a nail-biter as Devika trailed 15-20 and faced five game points. Displaying grit and determination, she mounted a dramatic comeback, saving all five game points before sealing the opener 22-20. Riding on that momentum, the Indian youngster dominated the second game, capitalising on a string of unforced errors from Huang to close out the match comfortably.
With this victory, Devika not only secured her first appearance in a Super 300 final but also underlined her growing stature in international badminton, marking a significant milestone in her emerging career.
