Coldwave Grips Odisha, IMD Issues Alert

Coldwave Alert Issued in Three Odisha Districts; Daringbadi Records 9.5°C

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a ‘yellow’ coldwave alert for Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, and Sundargarh districts of Odisha, warning residents to brace for chilly weather conditions.

The alert, valid for November 12, urges people to “be aware” and take precautions against the drop in temperatures. The rest of the state is expected to experience dry weather, the IMD said in its latest bulletin.

The state’s famed hill station Daringbadi in Kandhamal district recorded a minimum temperature of 9.5°C, making it the coldest place in Odisha. Several interior and western districts also witnessed a noticeable dip in night temperatures as the winter chill began to set in.

Weather experts attributed the fall in mercury to clear skies and dry northerly winds, which are typical during the onset of winter in the region. The IMD advised citizens, especially the elderly and children, to take necessary precautions against cold-related ailments.

With temperatures expected to dip further in the coming days, Odisha is gradually entering the early phase of the winter season.
