Coach Dilip: Keep eyes on ball

Don’t Lose Sight of the Ball, Says Coach Dilip on Taking High Catches

Indian cricket team fielding coach T Dilip has shared his key mantra for taking high catches at the Dubai International Stadiumnever lose sight of the ball, even for a split second.

Dilip explained that the stadium’s floodlight setup poses a unique challenge for fielders. Unlike conventional pillar-mounted lights seen in most cricket grounds, Dubai Stadium features high-intensity lights mounted around the circumference of its round roof, creating a “ring of fire” effect.

Despite the unusual lighting, the Indian players have adapted well to the environment, according to the coach. In a video posted by the BCCI on X, Dilip detailed the team’s fielding drills and how players are trained to maintain focus while attempting high outfield catches during crucial moments of the game.

“One of the challenges we encounter in Dubai Stadium is the lights are slightly different. It’s more of a ring of fire in the dome rather than on poles, which we usually come across,” Dilip said.

His insights underline the importance of concentration and technique in fielding, especially under unconventional conditions, and highlight the meticulous preparation Indian players undergo ahead of matches in international venues.
