CDS Gen Anil Chauhan Advocates Jointness 2.0 for Armed Forces’ Preparedness
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan emphasized the imperative of fostering a Joint Culture within the Armed Forces to enhance military preparedness and operational effectiveness. Speaking at the 22nd Major General Samir Sinha Memorial Lecture organized by the USI of India, CDS Gen Anil Chauhan outlined “Jointmanship: The Way Ahead,” highlighting the transition towards Joint Operational Structures.
Gen Anil Chauhan described Jointness 2.0 as the evolution beyond mere consensus-building among the services, focusing on deeper integration and synergy. He underscored the need to cultivate a Joint Culture that respects the distinctiveness of each service while harnessing the collective strengths through symbology and collaborative initiatives.
The creation of Integrated Theatre Commands was identified as pivotal in separating operational functions from administrative tasks, thereby enabling operational commanders to prioritize security matters effectively. Gen Chauhan emphasized that these commands signify a foundational reform, facilitating transitions from Single to Multi-Domain operations and integrating advanced technologies like space and cyber domains into traditional warfare strategies.
Highlighting global security challenges and technological advancements, Gen Anil Chauhan stressed the urgency of reforms within the Indian Defence ecosystem. He articulated that these reforms are essential in adapting to evolving security dynamics and leveraging technological advancements for future warfare strategies.
The discourse at the USI of India’s lecture underscored India’s strategic imperative to enhance joint operational capabilities through collaborative frameworks and integrated command structures.
