Border 2 opens big day one

Sunny Deol’s ‘Border 2’ opens big with Rs 32.10 crore on day one

Sunny Deol-starrer Border 2 opened to a thunderous start at the domestic box office, collecting Rs 32.10 crore net on its first day of release, the makers said on Saturday.

The film, which hit theatres across the country on Friday, is a sequel to Deol’s 1997 blockbuster Border, directed by J P Dutta and based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

Helmed by Anurag Singh, the new instalment is produced by T-Series in association with J P Films and features an ensemble cast including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty alongside Deol.

Trade analysts said the strong opening reflected both the nostalgia associated with the original film and the wide appeal of the war drama genre.

The makers are hopeful that positive word of mouth will help the film sustain its momentum over the weekend.
