BMJD Alleges Nuapada By-Poll Rigging

BMJD Alleges Massive Vote Rigging in Nuapada By-PollBhubaneswar, Nov 17 : Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD) President and Nuapada by-election candidate Snehangini Chhuria has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of winning the Nuapada Assembly by-poll through large-scale vote rigging, allegedly involving district administration, police, and election officials.

Chhuria claimed that during her campaign, she visited every panchayat and NAC area in Nuapada district and witnessed overwhelming support for the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and its President, Naveen Patnaik. However, she alleged that district administration officials acted with hostility toward BJD leaders and workers, taking vindictive measures to demoralize the party. Despite repeated complaints, no action was taken by election authorities.

According to Chhuria, on polling day, BJP workers entered several polling booths and campaigned inside, pressuring voters to cast their votes for the Lotus symbol. She added that BJD objections and complaints were ignored.

Highlighting irregularities, Chhuria pointed out that voting in 41 booths exceeded 90 percent, which she termed “highly questionable.” She also noted discrepancies in official voter turnout figures, citing that while 75 percent polling was recorded by 5 PM and 77 percent by 7 PM, the next day the turnout was reported at 81 percent, which further jumped to 83.45 percent by noon — a pattern she described as clear evidence of electoral manipulation.

Chhuria reiterated that the people of Nuapada had shown wholehearted support for BJD, but the BJP allegedly manipulated the administrative machinery to secure victory. She expressed gratitude to the electorate for their support and vowed to continue fighting for their interests and well-being.
