Art of Living’s Water Warriors Act

India’s escalating water crisis has prompted The Art of Living to mobilise its “Water Warriors” — a community-driven initiative aimed at reviving rivers, replenishing groundwater, and securing the nation’s water future.
With vast regions facing dangerously low groundwater levels and rivers reduced to seasonal trickles, water scarcity has shifted from a looming threat to a present-day reality. Experts warn that floods and droughts are now recurring in cycles, damaging crops, displacing communities, and endangering food security.
Despite the annual monsoon, only 20% of the country’s water needs are met through rainfall and surface sources. The remaining 80% — essential for drinking, cooking, and agriculture — comes from groundwater reserves that have been depleting steadily for over two decades.
Through large-scale watershed projects, rejuvenation of traditional water bodies, and community participation, The Art of Living’s “Water Warriors” are working across states to restore aquifers and ensure sustainable water management for future generations.
