Ankit Sakhiya on Laalo’s distinct narrative

‘Laalo’ made distinct despite comparisons with ‘Trapped’, ‘Oh My God’: Ankit Sakhiya

Gujarati-language filmmaker Ankit Sakhiya has said that he made a conscious effort to ensure his upcoming film “Laalo – Shree Krishna Sada Sahaayate” does not resemble Hindi films “Trapped” and “Oh My God”, despite inevitable thematic comparisons.

The film revolves around a rickshaw driver, Laalo, played by Karan Joshi, who enters a house with the intention of committing a robbery but finds himself trapped inside. The narrative takes an unexpected turn when Lord Krishna, portrayed by Shruhad Goswami, appears, adding a spiritual dimension to the story.

Acknowledging similarities in the basic premise, Sakhiya said that while developing the script with co-writers Krushansh Vaja and Vicky Poornima, they consciously studied Trapped and Oh My God to understand their narrative structures and ensure Laalo followed a distinct creative path.

“We were aware that people might draw comparisons, so we were careful not to get influenced by those films. Our focus was to tell an original story rooted in Gujarati sensibilities, blending drama, humour and spirituality in a fresh way,” the director said.

Sakhiya added that Laalo aims to offer audiences a unique cinematic experience by combining an unusual situation with faith-driven storytelling, rather than mirroring the tone or treatment of earlier films.

“Laalo – Shree Krishna Sada Sahaayate” is expected to release later this year.
