Aisangfa Gogoi Sets National Youth Weightlifting Record at KIYG 2025

Patna, May 11, 2025 – Assam’s Aisangfa Gogoi clinched the gold medal in the girls’ 55kg weightlifting category at the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025, held at the Rajgir Sports Complex. The 17-year-old lifted a total of 183kg, surpassing the previous national youth record of 182kg set by Koyel Bar of West Bengal during the 2024 Asian Championships in Doha .

Gogoi’s performance included a 75kg snatch, followed by clean and jerk lifts of 79kg and 81kg. In the snatch segment, she matched the national record set by Mina Santa of Odisha at the World Youth Championship in Suva, Fiji, last year . Mina Santa secured the silver medal with a total lift of 177kg, while Andhra Pradesh’s Hema Sri Karangi earned the bronze with 164kg .

This victory marked Gogoi’s first gold at the KIYG, propelling Assam into the top 10 of the medal standings with a total of six golds, two silvers, and two bronzes .

Meanwhile, Maharashtra showcased dominance in yogasana, sweeping both the gold and silver medals in the boys’ and girls’ rhythmic pairs competitions. With additional victories from weightlifter Yash Khandagale in the 61kg category, Maharashtra’s gold tally rose to 30, leading the overall medal count .

Karnataka maintained its position in second place, while Rajasthan secured a gold through Prakriti Sharma in the girls’ saber fencing event. Haryana’s Sachin contributed a foil fencing gold, elevating the state’s standing in the medal table .

Hosts Bihar continued to impress, adding medals in rugby, sepak takraw, cycling, gatka, judo, shooting, and yogasana, bringing their total to 20 medals, including three golds .

As the KIYG 2025 progresses, the competition intensifies across various sports, with athletics and wrestling set to commence, promising further excitement in the coming days
