AICC Restructures Odisha Congress Leadership Team

AICC Appoints 30 New Office Bearers for Odisha Congress Unit
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Saturday announced a major reshuffle in the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), appointing 30 new office bearers in a bid to strengthen the party’s organizational structure in the state.

The appointments come three months after senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das assumed charge as the OPCC president, signaling a renewed push to revamp the party ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.

According to a statement issued by AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the new team comprising seven vice-presidents, 10 general secretaries, 12 secretaries, and a treasurer.

Among the prominent names appointed as vice-presidents are fifth-term MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati, three-time legislator Ramesh Jena, two-time MLA CS Raazen Ekka, and former MLAs Santosh Singh Saluja, Debasis Patnaik, and Lalatendu Mohapatra. Sasmita Behera, a well-known woman leader, has also been inducted as one of the vice-presidents, reflecting the party’s emphasis on gender representation.

Party insiders say the appointments aim to strike a balance between experience and fresh energy, with leaders from diverse regions and backgrounds included to revitalize the Congress’s presence in Odisha.

The AICC move is seen as a strategic effort to re-energize the party’s grassroots network in the state, where it has been struggling to regain its footing in recent years amid fierce competition from the BJP and BJD.

With this new organizational team in place, the Congress is expected to intensify its outreach and political activities in Odisha in the coming months.
