BJD Urges BJP: Prioritize Odisha Development

BJD Slams BJP Government, Urges Focus on Odisha’s Development Over Scheme Renaming
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the 11-month-old BJP-led government in Odisha, accusing it of prioritizing the renaming of existing schemes over addressing the state’s pressing developmental needs.
In its first meeting since the recent political shifts, the BJD’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) expressed deep concern over what it described as deteriorating political and economic conditions in the state. The meeting was chaired by party president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, PAC member Niranjan Pujari said the committee deliberated on key issues affecting the state, including the alleged negligence of Odisha’s core development agenda by the BJP government.
“The BJP government seems more interested in renaming our flagship welfare schemes than in working sincerely for the people of Odisha,” Pujari said. “This approach not only disrespects the efforts made over years for the state’s progress but also confuses the public.”
The PAC, which serves as the BJD’s highest decision-making body, also discussed strategies to safeguard the interests of the people and hold the BJP government accountable for its promises.
The BJD, which ruled Odisha for over two decades before the BJP came to power, emphasized that its focus remains on inclusive development, social welfare, and protecting the federal structure.
The party has hinted at stepping up its campaign to expose what it calls the “cosmetic governance” of the BJP and demanded transparency in the implementation of welfare schemes.
As political temperatures rise in Odisha, the confrontation between the former ruling party and the BJP is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
