Neeraj Chopra Breaches 90m, Odisha Applauds

Odisha CM, Patnaik Congratulate Neeraj Chopra for Historic 90m Javelin Throw
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Saturday extended heartfelt congratulations to Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra for his historic performance at the Doha leg of the Diamond League.

Chopra made headlines after breaching the coveted 90-metre mark for the first time in his career, registering a throw of 90.23 meters during the men’s javelin competition. Despite his personal milestone, Chopra finished second behind Germany’s Julian Weber in a closely contested event on Friday night.

Describing the feat as a “historic moment and a proud milestone for Indian athletics,” CM Mohan Charan Majhi lauded Chopra’s consistent efforts and global impact. He added that the throw not only showcased the athlete’s personal growth but also elevated India’s status in international athletics.

Echoing similar sentiments, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also congratulated Chopra for his remarkable achievement, calling it “inspirational for young athletes across the country.” Patnaik, known for his emphasis on sports development in Odisha, said Chopra’s success will continue to fuel the dreams of emerging sportspersons.

The 90m mark has long been regarded as a benchmark of elite javelin performance, and Chopra’s entry into this exclusive club is being hailed as a significant leap for Indian track and field.

Chopra, who won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, has steadily grown into one of India’s most iconic sporting figures. His performance in Doha further cements his reputation as a world-class athlete.
