Heavy Rain Lashes Odisha, 23 Families Evacuated to Safety

Odisha experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday as a depression over the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast near Chilika Lake, officials reported. The intense weather conditions prompted immediate action from authorities to ensure the safety of residents in vulnerable areas.
At least 23 families from Malkangiri district, which bore the brunt of the heavy rainfall, were evacuated to safer locations. The district administration worked swiftly to relocate these families, minimizing the risk of casualties and property damage.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more rain over the next five days, indicating that the state should prepare for continued adverse weather conditions. The IMD’s warnings have prompted the state government and local authorities to remain on high alert, ready to respond to further emergencies.
Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas are advised to stay vigilant and follow instructions from local authorities. Relief and rescue teams have been deployed across the affected regions to provide necessary assistance and ensure the safety of the populace.
The heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life, with reports of waterlogging and transportation delays in several parts of the state. Schools in the affected areas have been closed as a precautionary measure.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until the weather improves. Efforts are also underway to restore normalcy and provide relief to those impacted by the heavy rains.
