Heavy Rain in Odisha as Depression Crosses Coast from Bay of Bengal
A depression over the Bay of Bengal crossed the Odisha coast near Chilika Lake on Saturday, leading to heavy rainfall in various parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted additional downpours over the next five days.
According to sources from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district recorded the highest rainfall with 220.5 mm, closely followed by Korkunda in the same district, which received 217 mm of rain.
The IMD bulletin reported that the weather system was positioned approximately 40 km south-southwest of Puri and 70 km east-northeast of Gopalpur on Saturday morning.
As a result of the heavy rainfall, low-lying areas have experienced waterlogging, affecting daily life and transportation. The state government has put local authorities on high alert, ensuring that necessary measures are taken to mitigate the impact of the weather.
Residents in affected regions are advised to stay indoors and adhere to safety guidelines issued by authorities. Emergency services and disaster response teams are on standby to provide assistance and ensure the safety of the population.
The state administration is monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with various agencies to address any emergencies that may arise due to the ongoing heavy rains. The public is urged to stay updated with weather forecasts and advisories to stay safe during this period.
