In a swift response to a viral video showing the alleged assault of a woman, three personnel from the Chandbali police station in Bhadrak district have been transferred to the district police headquarters. Bhadrak Superintendent of Police (SP) Varun Guntupalli issued the transfer orders on Thursday. The officers involved in the incident have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Nepali Saha, Constable Rabindra Kumar Sethi, and Home Guard Kishore Mohapatra.
Chandbali Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kartik Chandra Mallick confirmed that the three personnel have been relieved of their duties and responsibilities at the Chandbali police station. They will now report to the district police headquarters while an investigation into the incident is conducted.
The video, which circulated widely on various social media platforms, showed the policemen allegedly assaulting a woman, leading to public outcry and demands for accountability. The transfer of the officers is seen as a measure to ensure a fair and unbiased investigation.
“We have taken immediate action in response to the incident captured in the video. The officers have been transferred and will remain at the district police headquarters pending the outcome of the investigation,” said SP Guntupalli.
Authorities have assured the public that a thorough and transparent investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings.
The incident has once again brought to the fore concerns about police conduct and the treatment of civilians, particularly women, by law enforcement personnel. The Odisha police department has reiterated its commitment to uphold the law and protect the rights and dignity of all citizens.
