Badminton Icon Saina Nehwal Seeks Blessings at Jagannath Temple in Puri
Badminton sensation and Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Saina Nehwal, recently visited the revered Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri to offer prayers and seek blessings. Accompanied by her mother, Nehwal expressed her gratitude to Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy for facilitating her visit.
After her temple visit, Nehwal spoke to the media, emphasizing her desire for India to excel in sports. She highlighted the need for more badminton academies and quality coaching to nurture young talent and elevate the sport in the country. Nehwal affirmed her willingness to contribute towards this goal, underscoring her commitment to the growth of Indian sports.
Hailing from Haryana, the 33-year-old badminton star gained prominence early in her career by winning the BWF World Junior Championships in 2008. Subsequently, she made history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the Olympic quarter-finals in 2008. Her journey culminated in a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, solidifying her status as one of India’s most celebrated athletes.
Nehwal’s achievements extend beyond Olympic glory, as she became the first Indian to win a BWF Super Series event in 2009. Her stellar performances earned her prestigious accolades, including the Arjuna Award in 2009 and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2010.
Throughout her illustrious career, Nehwal has represented India with distinction in premier badminton competitions worldwide, securing numerous trophies and medals. Notably, she holds the distinction of being the only female Indian player to attain the world No.1 ranking in badminton.
