Future-Ready IT Parks Planned In J&K

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir is planning to develop future-ready IT parks across the Union Territory in a phased manner, beginning with the establishment of an innovation and research park at the campus of Indian Institute of Technology Jammu on the outskirts of the city.

Officials said the initiative has gained momentum after the Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Technology Jammu approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) on January 5, 2026. The UT administration has also granted in-principle approval for collaboration to set up the proposed innovation hub.

The project roadmap was recently reviewed by Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, who examined plans aimed at strengthening the region’s technology ecosystem and enhancing institutional capabilities.

According to officials, the proposed innovation and research park at the IIT campus will act as a catalyst for technological advancement, research collaboration and startup incubation. It is expected to attract investment, support emerging technologies and create employment opportunities for local youth.

The IT parks planned across the Union Territory are envisioned as future-ready technology hubs, equipped with modern infrastructure to support innovation, entrepreneurship and industry-academia collaboration.

The initiative is also expected to play a key role in building institutional capacity and preparing Jammu and Kashmir to address future technological challenges, while positioning the region as an emerging destination for technology-driven growth.
