Vedanta Aluminium Launches Vedamrit Honey Initiative

Vedanta Aluminium Launches “Vedamrit,” Eastern India’s Largest Honey Farmer Producer Organization

Bhubaneswar, March 11 : Vedanta Aluminium, under its CSR initiative, has unveiled the Vedamrit Jibika Farmer Producer Company and introduced “Vedamrit – 100% Pure Honey” to promote sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and enhanced farmer livelihoods.

With this launch, Vedanta Aluminium has established Eastern India’s largest honey Farmer Producer Organization (FPO). In its first phase, over 500 farmers received bee boxes after undergoing capacity-building training. Each honeybee box is expected to generate an additional annual income of around Rs. 16,000, providing a stable supplementary livelihood to rural households.

The FPO aims to produce 5,000 litres of premium honey by April 2026, with plans to scale up to 20,000 litres annually, potentially generating an estimated Rs. 1 crore in revenue while ensuring long-term sustainability for participating farmers.

As part of the initiative, Vedanta Aluminium introduced a structured bilingual training module in Odia and English, enhancing farmers’ technical knowledge. A live demonstration of honey production and extraction provided hands-on exposure to modern beekeeping techniques, boosting farmers’ confidence and readiness.

Manju Patel, a farmer and member of Vedamrit Jibika FPO, said, “Vedamrit has opened a new door for us. With training and support, I can now earn more without depending solely on seasonal crops. This initiative gives us confidence that our hard work can create a better future for our families.”

Beyond honey production, Vedamrit represents a holistic livelihood ecosystem that integrates income generation with environmental regeneration. Beekeeping improves natural pollination, potentially enhancing crop productivity by 30%, strengthening biodiversity, and fostering climate-resilient farming systems in the region.

Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Vedamrit reflects our commitment to sustainable livelihoods for communities around our operations. By empowering farmers with scientific beekeeping, market access, and capacity-building, we aim to enhance rural incomes while promoting environmental sustainability through improved pollination and biodiversity.”
