Rani Mukerji is one for the ages, says Ranbir Kapoor

Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor on Monday heaped praise on Rani Mukerji, calling her “one of the greatest actors in India” and crediting her for shaping the industry through her body of work.

Speaking on the occasion of Mukerji completing 30 years in cinema, Ranbir recalled his first professional association with her in his debut film Saawariya and described the senior actor as a source of early encouragement in his career.

“Rani is the co-star of my first film Saawariya, and she is the first person who told me that if I worked hard, I would go a long way. I will never forget that interaction because it gave me so much confidence when I needed it the most,” Ranbir said in a statement.

The actor said he has closely observed Mukerji both as a colleague and as a performer, and has been consistently impressed by her talent and personality.

“I have seen her as a person closely, I have seen her work closely and have been bowled over by her grace, charm and brilliance,” he added.

Rani Mukerji made her debut in 1996 and went on to deliver several iconic performances in films such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Tum, Black, and the Mardaani franchise. Over three decades, she has carved a distinctive space in Hindi cinema with her versatility and strong female-led roles.

Industry colleagues and fans have been celebrating the milestone, with many acknowledging her lasting impact on contemporary Indian cinema.
