India on Wednesday began nationwide celebrations to mark 150 years of its National Song Vande Mataram, with mass singing, cultural programmes and military band performances held at prominent public locations to foster national pride and unity.
As part of the commemorations, the Indian Air Force Band performed a special 45-minute concert at the amphitheatre in Rajiv Chowk here on January 21. The ensemble of 31 musicians presented a blend of brass, reed, string and electronic instruments in eleven compositions.
Renditions of Vande Mataram and the patriotic song Sindoor, composed to commemorate the actions of the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor, were the highlights of the evening, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Officials said the celebrations aim to reconnect citizens with the cultural and historical significance of the national song and its role in inspiring the freedom movement.
Founded in 1944, the Indian Air Force Band has played a key role in India’s military and cultural heritage, promoting patriotism and unity through its diverse repertoire of Indian and Western music.
The nationwide events will continue across several cities with similar cultural and musical programmes.
