Odisha Launches Road Safety Governance Initiative

Odisha Launches Road Safety Initiative as Good Governance Measure
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday launched the Mukhyamantri Sadak Suraksha Yojana Samman and introduced an alert bell provision at the accident-prone Kalinga Ghat, reinforcing the state’s commitment to road safety.
Addressing the event marking National Road Safety Month, CM Majhi said, “From today onwards, road safety has been accepted as a part of good governance. I hope that with this, government officials will be more vigilant about it.”
Under the new initiative, districts, educational institutions, and private organisations will be recognised and honoured for their proactive measures in promoting road safety. The scheme aims to create awareness, encourage responsible behaviour on roads, and reduce accidents across the state.
The alert bell installed at Kalinga Ghat, a known accident-prone area, is designed to alert drivers and pedestrians, enhancing safety in high-risk zones. The Chief Minister emphasised that such steps are part of a larger effort to integrate road safety into everyday governance and public life in Odisha.
