India to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games

CWG 2030: India Poised to Secure Hosting Rights at Commonwealth Sport’s General Assembly

India is on the verge of officially securing the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with the Commonwealth Sport’s General Assembly in Glasgow expected to give its formal approval on Wednesday. The endorsement is considered a formality, as India’s bid had already received strong backing from the Commonwealth Sport’s Board over a month ago.

The decision marks a major milestone in India’s growing ambition to establish itself as a global centre for major multi-sport events. After hosting the Games in Delhi in 2010, India has chosen Ahmedabad as the venue for the 2030 edition. Over the past decade, the city has rapidly upgraded its sports infrastructure, positioning itself as a prime candidate for hosting large international competitions.

The recommendation for India’s bid was made following a thorough review by the Commonwealth Sport’s Evaluation Committee. The General Assembly’s approval is expected to finalize India’s role as host, paving the way for preparations to begin in earnest for what promises to be one of the country’s most significant sporting events in recent years.
