Steel Minister inaugurates new steel-making facility at SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant
Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H. D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday inaugurated a major modern steel-making facility at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), marking a key milestone in the plant’s expansion and technological upgrade.
During his two-day visit to Rourkela, the minister formally launched the ‘Caster-4’ unit at the plant’s Steel Melting Shop-2. The new continuous casting facility is expected to enhance production efficiency, improve product quality, and strengthen RSP’s capacity to meet growing domestic and international steel demand.
Kumaraswamy, accompanied by Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, reviewed various plant operations and ongoing development projects. He highlighted that the new unit would significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of Odisha, generating employment opportunities and bolstering industrial growth in the region.
Terming the project a step forward in India’s steelmaking capabilities, the minister said the upgraded infrastructure would support the nation’s broader manufacturing ambitions under its industrial and economic growth roadmap.
