Odisha launches pre-test for Census 2027 house listing exercise

The Directorate of Census Operations, Odisha, on Monday began a pre-test for the house listing and housing census across four selected areas of the state, officials said.

The pre-test, which will run until November 30, forms a crucial preparatory step ahead of the nationwide Census 2027 exercise.

Addressing the media, Census Director Nikhil Pavan Kalyan said the first phase of Census 2027 is being carried out under the supervision of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, in close coordination with the Odisha government.

He added that the pre-test will help assess the effectiveness of forms, methodologies, and digital tools proposed for the full-scale census operation.
