Centre okays 62 new Odisha PG seats

Centre approves 62 more PG seats in six Odisha medical colleges: CM

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced that the Centre has approved 62 additional postgraduate (PG) seats in six state-run medical colleges and hospitals for the 2025–26 academic year, marking a major step toward strengthening the state’s healthcare and medical education infrastructure.

Calling it a “significant milestone,” Majhi said the expansion of PG seats will help address the shortage of specialist doctors and improve advanced healthcare delivery, particularly in western Odisha.

In a letter to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the Centre’s continued support, stating, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the gracious approval of 62 PG seats in six government medical colleges and hospitals in Odisha for the academic year 2025–26.”

The state government has been focusing on expanding medical education capacity and modernizing healthcare infrastructure through the establishment of new colleges, increased intake capacity, and upgraded hospital facilities.

Officials said the approval of additional PG seats will significantly boost the number of trained specialists in key disciplines and enhance the overall quality of medical education in the state.
