Odisha Chief Secretary urges sustainable artisan growth

Odisha Chief Secretary calls for sustainable growth of handloom, handicraft artisan communities Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja on Friday underscored the need for sustained efforts to promote innovation, inclusivity, and sustainable growth among handloom and handicraft artisan communities across India.

Addressing the inaugural session of the two-day National Conference on Handlooms and Handicrafts, organised by the Union Ministry of Textiles in Bhubaneswar, Ahuja highlighted India’s rich textile heritage and the pivotal role of artisans in preserving traditional craftsmanship.

He called for a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the country’s handmade sector by enhancing supply chain efficiency, integrating digital and online marketing platforms, and forging stronger global linkages to boost exports.

“The handmade sector represents not just India’s cultural identity but also a significant opportunity for sustainable livelihoods. Strengthening it through innovation, inclusivity, and global outreach is vital for long-term growth,” Ahuja said.

The conference aims to deliberate on opportunities and challenges in the handmade sector and to formulate actionable strategies under the government’s upcoming schemes for artisans, weavers, and craft clusters.

The event brought together policymakers, industry experts, and representatives from various states to discuss the roadmap for revitalizing India’s handloom and handicraft ecosystem while ensuring fair trade and better market access for artisans.
