Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand meets PM Modi, discusses strengthening bilateral ties

Canadian Foreign Minister H.E. Ms. Anita Anand called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to deepening India–Canada relations across key sectors including trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people connections.

Welcoming Minister Anand, Prime Minister Modi said her visit would help impart “new momentum” to the bilateral partnership, which has seen renewed engagement in recent months.

Recalling his visit to Canada in June this year for the G7 Summit, the Prime Minister noted that his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney had been “extremely productive.” He emphasized that India and Canada share complementary strengths that can drive mutual growth, particularly in sustainable energy and innovation-led industries.

Modi also conveyed his warm wishes to Prime Minister Carney and expressed optimism about their upcoming engagements, highlighting that sustained dialogue between the two democracies would help advance common global and regional priorities.

The meeting marks an important step in rebuilding diplomatic warmth between the two nations, underscoring shared interests in economic cooperation, clean energy transition, and expanding educational and cultural exchanges.
