Odisha Unites for Accident-Free Roads

CM Majhi Calls for Accident-Free Odisha, Launches “Zero Accident Day” Campaign in Keonjhar

Bhubaneswar, Sep 13 : Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today called upon citizens to join hands in making Odisha an accident-free state, stressing that safety is a collective responsibility that goes beyond government action alone. Addressing the media during the launch of the “Zero Accident Day” (ZAD) campaign in Keonjhar, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of vigilance, adherence to traffic rules, and collective awareness in preventing road accidents.

The campaign was officially launched in Keonjhar, where CM Majhi inaugurated the Zero Accident Selfie Point and felicitated road safety ambassadors. He also flagged off awareness drives across all 13 blocks of the district and launched the “Singanechar” campaign aimed at promoting safety practices among drivers and residents.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister remarked, “Our goal is to spread the Zero Accident Day message to every city, village, and household. Be aware of yourself and make others aware. Only vigilance and caution in every sphere can save lives.”

Keonjhar, a mineral-rich district, witnesses heavy traffic from trucks, loaders, and other industrial vehicles transporting minerals daily. While this boosts the state’s economy, it also brings road safety challenges. CM Majhi urged citizens and industrial bodies alike to strictly follow safety protocols, maintain vehicles regularly, and provide proper training to drivers.

“The ‘Zero Accident Day’ initiative reflects our collective responsibility. Mining and industrial companies must prioritize the safety of drivers and employees. Regular vehicle maintenance and proper training can prevent many accidents,” he said.

The Chief Minister also pointed to the successful implementation of the first phase of the campaign in Bhubaneswar and noted that Keonjhar is the first district to expand the initiative extensively. A 14-day programme supported by IIT Madras is being organized in Keonjhar to offer expert guidance on accident prevention.

The event was attended by Rajya Sabha MPs, local MLAs, Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, STA Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, DIG Brijesh Roy, and District Magistrate Hakib Singh.

With this campaign, Odisha aims to foster a culture of safety and responsibility, ensuring that both citizens and industries contribute towards reducing accidents and saving lives.
