Odisha to establish first major MRO facility

Odisha to Set Up Eastern India’s First Major MRO Facility at BPIA

Bhubaneswar, Aug 13 : In a major boost to its civil aviation sector, the Odisha Cabinet has approved the establishment of a world-class Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Bhubaneswar — the first such large-scale MRO in Eastern India.

To attract private investment in the capital-intensive sector, the state will extend additional incentives beyond the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022. India’s oldest and largest third-party MRO provider, Air Works India (Engineering) Pvt. Ltd., has been selected as the anchor investor following a rigorous evaluation process.

The facility will be developed under Odisha’s B-MAAN (Building and Management of Aviation Assets and Network) scheme, with implementation overseen by the Commerce & Transport Department and monitoring by the High Power Committee on Aviation.

Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said the project will position Odisha as a regional aviation hub, leveraging its strategic location along major air routes to cater to both domestic and international carriers.

With India’s airline fleet projected to grow by over 1,000 aircraft in the next decade, and the MRO industry expected to reach USD 4 billion by 2031, the state sees significant employment and revenue potential from the project.
