Second Odisha Fisherman Rescued, Search On

Another Odisha Fisherman Rescued Off West Bengal Coast; Search Continues for Two Missing

In a continuing search operation, another fisherman from Odisha’s Balasore district has been rescued off the Digha coast in West Bengal after going missing at sea along with three others, police said on Monday.

The rescued fisherman belongs to a family from Baliapal block in Balasore and was located during a joint rescue effort carried out by coastal authorities from Odisha and West Bengal.

With this, two of the four missing fishermen have now been rescued alive, while efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining two. The group had ventured into the Bay of Bengal last week for fishing activities but lost contact amid rough sea conditions.

Coast Guard units and local marine police teams are continuing aerial and sea-based searches along the Odisha-West Bengal maritime border, focusing on the areas between Chandipur and Digha.

“The rescued fisherman is currently receiving medical attention and is said to be out of danger. We are hopeful about locating the other two missing men soon,” a senior police official from Balasore stated.

Family members of the fishermen have been camping at the local police station and coastal rescue offices, anxiously awaiting updates. Local authorities have assured continued support and coordination with West Bengal’s coastal forces until the search concludes.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety protocols followed by small-scale fishermen, particularly during unpredictable monsoon weather conditions.

Further updates are awaited as the search operation progresses.
