CSIR-NAL Transfers Solar Tech to Helix

CSIR-NAL Transfers NALSUN-NG Solar Coating Technology to Helix Solar Pvt Ltd

In a significant boost to India’s clean energy and self-reliance initiatives, the CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) has successfully transferred its advanced solar absorber coating technology, NALSUN-NG, to Helix Solar Private Limited, a Mysuru-based clean-tech startup.

A formal technology transfer agreement was signed on Monday, marking a milestone in the development of indigenous solar thermal technologies.

NALSUN-NG is a next-generation solar absorber coating developed by CSIR-NAL to enhance the efficiency and performance of flat plate solar water heaters. The technology is poised to substantially reduce India’s dependency on imported evacuated tube collectors (ETCs)—which currently stand at about 5–6 lakh units per month.

“This transfer is a significant stride towards achieving Atmanirbhar Bharat in the solar energy sector,” CSIR-NAL stated. “It aligns with national missions such as Make in India, the National Solar Mission, and supports India’s clean energy transition.”

The transfer of this technology to Helix Solar is expected to catalyze domestic manufacturing capabilities and foster innovation in sustainable energy solutions. Helix Solar, known for its work in solar photovoltaic and thermal solutions, is set to commercialize the NALSUN-NG technology, enabling high-quality, cost-effective solar water heating systems.

The collaboration underscores CSIR-NAL’s growing role in bridging high-end research and industrial application, thereby contributing to India’s climate goals and energy independence.
