Israel Strikes Iran, Air India Diverts

Air India Diverts 16 Long-Haul Flights After Israeli Attack on Iran Closes Airspace

Air India was forced to divert 16 of its long- and ultra-long haul flights on Friday after Iranian airspace was closed in the wake of an Israeli airstrike on Iran. The airline confirmed the diversions through a travel advisory, stating that it is working on alternative arrangements to ensure passengers reach their destinations safely.

The disruption came after Israel launched a targeted military strike on Iran’s capital, Tehran, reportedly focusing on nuclear facilities, ballistic missile production units, and key military commanders. The heightened tensions in the region prompted the closure of Iranian airspace, affecting global air traffic.

Air India, which operates several routes that traverse Iranian airspace—particularly those to Europe and North America—was among the first to be impacted by the closure. The airline said passenger safety remains its top priority and assured that it is coordinating with aviation authorities to minimize delays and reroute affected flights efficiently.

Industry sources noted that other international carriers are also expected to reroute flights or face delays as the Middle East air corridor becomes increasingly volatile.

Flight operations are expected to return to normal once the geopolitical situation stabilizes and airspace restrictions are lifted.
