Odisha CM Launches Vikas Bahan Yatra to Connect Citizens with Government Schemes
Bhubaneswar, June 12: In a major outreach initiative, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday launched the state-level Vikas Bahan Yatra, aimed at deepening public awareness and engagement with various government schemes and programmes.
Organised by the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department, the Yatra commemorates the completion of one year of the Majhi-led state government. Addressing a public gathering during the launch, the Chief Minister said the “double-engine government” in Odisha is functioning at “double speed” to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of its people.
“A hallmark of our government is its continuous effort to connect with citizens,” Majhi said, emphasising that the Vikas Bahan Yatra is a step toward bridging the gap between the administration and the people.
Highlighting achievements over the past year, he noted progress in infrastructure, industry, and the empowerment of women, farmers, tribal communities, and youth. “We have unlocked immense potential across sectors. This campaign will further inspire public confidence from villages to cities,” he added.
As part of the Yatra, specially designed vehicles will travel across 314 blocks, 115 notified area councils, and 5 municipal corporations, bringing governance to people’s doorsteps. These “vikas bahans” will distribute Pragati Prabha—a publication highlighting key government achievements—and a progress booklet outlining milestones from the past year.
Majhi stressed that public participation is key to ensuring the success of government initiatives and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to clean, accountable, and people-centric governance.
Minister of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Ravi Narayan Naik, also addressed the event and echoed the Chief Minister’s commitment to inclusive development and grassroots outreach.
