CDS Comments Spark Kharge’s Parliament Demand

Congress President Kharge Demands Special Parliament Session Over CDS Remarks in Singapore

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday called for a special session of Parliament following controversial remarks made by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in an interview in Singapore. Kharge alleged that the comments have raised serious questions about India’s defence preparedness and accused the Modi government of misleading the nation.

Addressing the issue on his social media handle X, Kharge said, “Our IAF pilots were risking their lives fighting the enemy. We have suffered some losses, but our pilots were safe. As per the CDS’s interview, ‘we made, remedied it, rectified it, and then implemented it again after two days and flew all our jets again, targeting at long range.’” He added that while the courage and bravery of the armed forces are beyond question, there is an urgent need for a comprehensive strategic review of India’s defence systems.

Kharge demanded the formation of an independent expert committee to conduct a thorough review of the country’s defence preparedness, akin to the Kargil Review Committee that was set up after the 1999 Kargil conflict.

He also raised concerns about US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, calling it a direct affront to the Shimla Agreement. Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent on these assertions and accused him of taking personal credit for the armed forces’ valour while allegedly dodging important issues related to the ceasefire.

“Instead of clarifying Mr. Trump’s repeated assertions, and the affidavit filed by US Secretary of Commerce in the United States Court of International Trade, PM Modi is on an election blitz, taking personal credit for the valour of our Armed Forces, hiding behind their bravery and dodging the contours of the agreed ceasefire,” Kharge said, referring to the Foreign Secretary’s announcement on the ceasefire on May 10, which followed Trump’s tweet.

Kharge emphasized that the 140 crore Indians deserve clarity on the issue and posed critical questions about the current status of India-Pakistan relations, asking, “Is India and Pakistan now again hyphenated? What are the conditions of the ceasefire agreement?”

The Congress leader’s demand for a special Parliament session reflects rising political tensions amid sensitive developments in India’s defence and diplomatic landscape.
