Chouhan Launches Nationwide Agriculture Reform Campaign

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Launches ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ from Odisha

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday launched the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’, a nationwide campaign aimed at transforming Indian agriculture through scientific innovation and farmer engagement.

The campaign was flagged off from Sakshigopal in Puri district and later extended to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Central Institute of Freshwater Fisheries (ICAR-CIFA) in Kausalya Ganga, Bhubaneswar. The event saw the presence of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, local MLAs, senior agricultural scientists, and farming community representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Chouhan said the campaign is a step towards realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Lab to Land”, connecting farmers directly with agricultural scientists to ensure practical implementation of research. “Through this initiative, we aim to make India the food basket of the world by fostering scientific farming and innovation at the grassroots,” he stated.

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is expected to empower farmers with scientific knowledge, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and contribute to the broader goal of building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). It emphasizes the need for close collaboration between research institutions and the rural farming community.

The launch in Odisha marks the beginning of a series of activities and outreach programs under the campaign across the country, focusing on productivity, sustainability, and technology adoption in Indian agriculture.
