Odisha Governor to Lead Delegation Bringing Back Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha from Vietnam

In a significant moment of spiritual and cultural importance, Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will lead an official Indian delegation to Vietnam to accompany the sacred relics of Lord Buddha back to India on June 2, official sources said on Thursday.

The Governor is scheduled to depart for Vietnam from New Delhi on Friday, according to Raj Bhavan officials. The visit is part of a ceremonial exchange between India and Vietnam, underscoring the deep civilisational ties and shared Buddhist heritage between the two nations.

Ahead of his departure, Governor Kambhampati expressed his reverence and pride in being part of the sacred mission. “It is a matter of great honour to accompany the sacred relics of Lord Buddha back to India. This spiritual journey reflects our shared civilisational heritage with Vietnam,” he said.

The relics, considered deeply sacred by followers of Buddhism across the world, are expected to be received in India with solemn religious rituals and public reverence. The return of the relics is likely to further strengthen India-Vietnam cultural relations, and highlight India’s role as the birthplace of Buddhism.

This historic journey reaffirms India’s commitment to preserving and honoring its ancient spiritual traditions, while also promoting global cultural exchange and unity.
