Northeast Summit Secures ₹4.3 Lakh Crore

Over ₹4.3 Lakh Crore Investment Proposals Received at Rising North East Summit 2025, Marking a New Economic Dawn for NER
New Delhi, May 25, 2025 — The Rising North East Investors Summit 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from May 23–24, concluded on a resounding note with investment proposals exceeding ₹4.3 lakh crore. The landmark summit, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has set the stage for the Northeast Region (NER) to become India’s next economic growth engine.
Union Minister of Communications and Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, in his valedictory address, hailed the summit as a pivotal moment in India’s economic narrative. “The Northeast has emerged as a hub of global partnership and mutual interest. This is just the beginning of NER’s journey to becoming an international economic gateway,” he said.
Massive Investment Commitments from Industry Giants
Leading industrialists made substantial commitments during the summit. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani pledged ₹75,000 crore towards agriculture, digital infrastructure, and local enterprises. Gautam Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Group, committed ₹50,000 crore over the next decade. Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta, also announced investments exceeding ₹30,000 crore in the region. Collectively, these announcements alone total over ₹1.55 lakh crore.
Global Participation and Strategic Engagements
The summit witnessed participation from delegations representing over 80 countries, including Japan, ASEAN nations, and European states. Over the past year, MDoNER conducted a robust engagement campaign featuring nine roadshows across major Indian cities, two Ambassadors’ Meets with representatives from 95+ countries, and six state roundtables — all to attract investment and showcase the Northeast’s potential.
Shri Scindia emphasized that the investment interest is a direct outcome of these proactive efforts. “We’ve adopted a whole-of-government approach and formed eight sector-specific task forces spanning agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, textiles, animal husbandry, and more — empowering each state to shape its own developmental roadmap,” he said.
Infrastructure and Developmental Gains
Highlighting the developmental strides made in the last decade, the Minister noted a jump in national highways from 10,905 km in 2014 to 16,207 km in 2024. Power generation capacity increased by 694.5 MW, transmission infrastructure expanded by 10,000 circuit km, and airport numbers nearly doubled — from 9 to 17.
Prime Minister Modi, in his inaugural address, spotlighted the ₹21,000 crore invested in the education sector in the Northeast over the past ten years. This includes over 800 new schools, the region’s first AIIMS, nine new medical colleges, and two IIITs.
A Vision for the Future
Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Pabitra Margherita and Minister of State Shri Sukanta Majumdar praised the transformation of the region and the unprecedented attention it is receiving from national and international stakeholders.
“From Guwahati to Mumbai and Hyderabad to Kolkata, the Rising North East Summit has amplified the region’s voice, vision, and value,” said Shri Majumdar.
MDoNER Secretary Shri Chanchal Kumar reaffirmed that the Northeast is no longer seen merely for its scenic landscapes, but also as a future powerhouse of innovation, industry, and trade.
A New Era of Growth
The summit served as a platform for B2G and B2B dialogues, startup showcases, policy exhibitions, and collaboration across multiple sectors. Shri Scindia assured that the government will relentlessly pursue the conversion of every MoU into reality, reiterating that the Northeast’s journey towards becoming India’s international trade and connectivity hub has officially begun.
“NER now embarks on a New Economic Revolution — one that will connect India with Southeast Asia and drive the next wave of national growth,” concluded the Union Minister.
The Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 stands as a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to integrating the Northeast with the nation’s broader economic vision, turning promises into transformative progress.
