Panel Studies Kerala’s Sustainable Farming Model

High-Powered Panel Reviews Kerala’s Model for Long-Term Agricultural Sustainability

A Supreme Court-appointed high-powered committee held an important meeting on Thursday in Panchkula to deliberate on long-term agricultural sustainability, with a special focus on the best practices adopted by the Government of Kerala.

Chaired by Justice Nawab Singh, former judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and current chairperson of the committee, the session brought together experts and policymakers to examine successful models of sustainable and profitable agriculture.

According to an official release from the Haryana government, the committee discussed Kerala’s innovative strategies to transform agriculture into a viable and resilient sector. These strategies include eco-friendly farming methods, farmer-centric policies, and integrated agricultural practices that ensure environmental conservation while improving farmer incomes.

“The meeting focused on studying and deliberating upon the best practices adopted by the Government of Kerala to make agriculture a sustainable and profitable enterprise,” the release stated.

The committee is tasked with recommending agrarian reforms and viable models that can be implemented across states, especially in regions like Punjab and Haryana that are facing challenges due to overexploitation of natural resources and unsustainable agricultural practices.

Officials said the insights gained from Kerala’s approach could play a key role in shaping future policy decisions aimed at addressing India’s growing agrarian crisis.
