Tourism, Hospitality Unite After Pahalgam Attack

Tourism, Hospitality, Aviation Sectors to Unite Amid Post-Pahalgam Challenges: Taj CEO
In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, the tourism, hospitality, and aviation sectors will collaborate closely to confront the challenges ahead, said Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), which owns the Taj Hotels brand.
Speaking on Sunday at the convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, Chhatwal emphasized the need for resilience and strategic crisis management in the face of adversity.
Responding to questions about the impact of the Pahalgam incident on the hospitality sector, Chhatwal remarked, “Management is about navigating crises. Every crisis brings with it an opportunity — to adapt, innovate, and emerge stronger.” He noted that the coordinated efforts of related industries would be vital in maintaining business continuity and safeguarding India’s reputation as a premier travel destination.
Chhatwal acknowledged that the current geopolitical situation poses immediate challenges to tourism flows, particularly in sensitive regions like Jammu and Kashmir, but added that the industry has weathered similar situations before.
With the summer travel season approaching, industry leaders are expected to work in tandem with government bodies to ensure traveler confidence and safety while minimizing disruption to hospitality operations.
The Indian Hotels Company, a Tata Group enterprise, operates over 270 hotels in India and internationally, and has consistently played a leading role in shaping the narrative of resilience and recovery in the sector.
