Odisha Begins Refund Process for Bank Depositors

Odisha Government Begins Refund Process for Depositors of Bhubaneswar Urban Co-operative Bank

The Odisha government has officially launched the process of refunding money to depositors of the Bhubaneswar Urban Co-operative Bank, which had shut down in 2015 due to severe mismanagement. The move comes after years of uncertainty for the affected depositors.

On Monday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the process to return the funds. In a significant first step, 117 depositors received their deposits, totaling Rs 2.80 crore. This marks the beginning of a larger effort to reimburse depositors who were left in limbo after the bank’s closure nearly a decade ago.

The Odisha government has been under pressure to address the financial loss suffered by the bank’s customers. With the initiation of the refund process, it aims to restore faith in the financial system and provide relief to those who had entrusted their savings to the now-defunct bank.

An official release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed that more depositors will receive their funds in the coming weeks, as the process unfolds. The government has assured that the entire procedure will be carried out in a transparent and timely manner, offering hope to many who have been waiting for their refunds for years.

This step is seen as a positive move in strengthening the financial security of the state’s residents and addressing long-standing grievances related to financial mismanagement.
