Odisha Starts Special Electoral Revision Campaign

Odisha to Launch Door-to-Door Voter Verification Drive from May 30

Bhubaneswar, May 16 : Odisha will begin a statewide door-to-door voter verification drive from May 30 as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being undertaken by the Election Commission of India ahead of future elections.

Announcing the schedule at a press conference on Friday, Odisha Chief Electoral Officer R S Gopalan said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would visit households across the state between May 30 and June 28 for distribution and collection of enumeration forms.

The electoral roll revision exercise will be conducted with July 1, 2026 as the qualifying date for inclusion of voters in the updated rolls.

According to the Election Commission’s schedule, preparatory activities including printing of forms and training programmes for field officials will take place from May 20 to May 29. The draft electoral roll will be published on July 5.

Electors will be able to file claims and objections from July 5 to August 4, while the final electoral roll will be published on September 6 after disposal of all claims and objections.

Officials said nearly 3.16 crore electors, accounting for around 94.61 percent of Odisha’s voters, have already been mapped with the electoral rolls prepared during the last Special Intensive Revision conducted in 2002.

More than 45,255 Booth Level Officers will be engaged in the verification and revision process across the state to ensure smooth implementation of the exercise.

Election officials clarified that no additional documents would be collected from voters during the enumeration drive, aiming to prevent confusion and simplify the verification process for citizens.

The Special Intensive Revision exercise is considered a crucial step in updating and maintaining accurate electoral rolls by identifying eligible voters, removing discrepancies and ensuring greater transparency in the electoral system.

The large-scale verification campaign is expected to strengthen voter database accuracy ahead of upcoming electoral exercises in the state.
