SUN Mobility Partners with IndianOil to Establish Battery Swapping Network

SUN Mobility has announced a strategic collaboration with IndianOil to establish a comprehensive battery swapping infrastructure network by 2030. This joint venture aims to revolutionize the electric mobility landscape in India by scaling up to 10,000 battery swapping stations across more than 40 cities within the next three years.
The partnership combines IndianOil’s extensive network of over 37,000 fuel stations with SUN Mobility’s innovative battery swapping technology. This integration will make battery swapping as accessible and convenient as refueling at traditional petrol and diesel stations, significantly boosting the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, SUN Mobility highlighted the joint venture’s objective to facilitate the seamless adoption of electric mobility across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and small four-wheelers. The initiative will operate under the “Battery as a Service” (BaaS) model, which offers a flexible and efficient solution for EV users, reducing the barriers associated with battery ownership and charging infrastructure.
“This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our journey towards promoting sustainable and clean mobility solutions,” said Chetan Maini, Co-Founder and Chairman of SUN Mobility. “By leveraging IndianOil’s vast network and our advanced battery swapping technology, we aim to create a robust infrastructure that supports the rapid growth of electric vehicles in India.”
IndianOil, a leading player in the energy sector, expressed optimism about the joint venture’s potential to transform the EV ecosystem in India. “Our extensive network, combined with SUN Mobility’s cutting-edge technology, will enable us to provide a reliable and efficient battery swapping service, encouraging more consumers to switch to electric vehicles,” said Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman of IndianOil.
The deployment of this battery swapping infrastructure is expected to address several challenges currently faced by the EV market, including range anxiety, long charging times, and high upfront costs of EV batteries. The initiative aims to offer a practical and scalable solution, enhancing the overall user experience and accelerating the transition to electric mobility.
As the joint venture progresses, it will play a crucial role in India’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable transportation. The collaboration between SUN Mobility and IndianOil is poised to set a new benchmark in the EV industry, fostering innovation and driving the country towards a greener future.
