Silent Firing on the Rise Amid Rapid Technological Advancements: Report
The concept of “silent firing,” where companies subtly encourage employees to leave their roles without direct termination, is becoming increasingly prevalent, according to a report released on Monday by staffing solutions and HR services provider Genius Consultants.
The report highlights that with rapid technological advancements reshaping workplaces, 10% of employers now favor layoffs for positions deemed redundant. Silent firing often involves strategies such as withholding growth opportunities or reducing responsibilities to prompt employees to exit voluntarily.
However, the report also revealed that a majority of employers—79%—are prioritizing upskilling their workforce to adapt to technological changes rather than resorting to layoffs. These companies aim to equip employees with the tools needed to navigate the evolving professional landscape.
“Silent firing is becoming a nuanced approach intertwined with technological progress, as organizations strive to balance workforce management with innovation,” the report noted.
The trend underscores the growing need for professionals to stay updated with industry-relevant skills to secure their roles in an increasingly competitive and tech-driven environment.
