Senthilkumar and Rathika Lead Indian Charge at Asian Team Squash Championships
India’s contingent for the 22nd Asian Team Squash Championships is set, with reigning men’s national champion Velavan Senthilkumar and women’s semi-finalist Rathika Seelan poised to headline the challenge in Dalian, China, from June 12-16.
The Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) unveiled the formidable lineup after rigorous selection trials at the Indian Squash & Triathlon Academy in Chennai. Joining Senthilkumar in the men’s squad are 2023 National Games champion Abhay Singh, Rahul Baitha, and Suraj Chand. Meanwhile, the women’s team comprises Pooja Arthi R, Sunita Patel, and Janet Vidhi.
India’s exceptional performance at the last Asian Games in Hangzhou, securing five medals amidst stiff competition, has spurred the SRFI to nurture young talents. With an eye on the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and squash’s impending Olympic debut in Los Angeles 2028, the federation aims to groom a formidable squad capable of competing at the highest levels of international squash.
The selection of Senthilkumar and Rathika as the torchbearers of the Indian challenge underscores their prowess and consistency on the squash court. As they lead the charge in Dalian, they carry the hopes of a nation eager to witness further triumphs on the international stage.
With preparations underway and aspirations soaring high, the Indian contingent braces itself for the upcoming championships, poised to showcase their skill, determination, and unwavering commitment to squash excellence on the Asian platform.
