SECI Issues RfS for Green Ammonia Production under National Green Hydrogen Mission

In a landmark move to accelerate the adoption of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has released a Request for Selection (RfS) for Green Ammonia Producers. This initiative is part of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme, under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), led by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Significant Boost to Green Ammonia Production

The RfS calls for competitive bidding for a total capacity of 5.39 lakh metric tonnes (MT) per annum of Green Ammonia. The selection process will involve e-bidding followed by an e-Reverse Auction. The Green Ammonia produced will be directed to fertilizer companies, supporting the agricultural sector’s transition to cleaner energy sources.

Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT)

Earlier, MNRE issued guidelines for implementing the SIGHT Programme’s Component II: Incentive for Procurement of Green Ammonia Production under Mode 2A of the NGHM. SECI has been designated as the implementing agency for this initiative.

Under the SIGHT Programme, MNRE has already allocated a capacity of 4.12 lakh MT per annum for Green Hydrogen production and 1.5 GW per annum for Electrolyzer manufacturing. These allocations are crucial for scaling up India’s Green Hydrogen infrastructure.

National Green Hydrogen Mission

Launched on 4th January 2023, the National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to position India as a leader in Green Hydrogen technology and market. With a budget of Rs. 19,744 crores up to FY 2029-30, the mission will significantly contribute to India’s self-reliance in clean energy, reduce fossil fuel imports, and drive economic decarbonization. This mission aligns with India’s broader goals of achieving Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and leading the global transition to sustainable energy.
