Sand Artist Sudarsan Pattnaik Pays Emotional Tribute to Dharmendra at Puri Beach
Puri, Nov 24: Renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a stunning sand sculpture at Puri Beach in memory of legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra, who passed away recently. The tribute, bearing the message “RIP Dharmendra Ji, End of an Era,” reflects the deep admiration and respect the nation holds for the veteran actor.
The 5-foot-long sculpture was crafted using nearly six tonnes of sand. It beautifully captures Dharmendra’s grace, strength, and iconic screen presence, reminding visitors of his larger-than-life persona in Indian cinema. Students of Pattnaik’s Sand Art Institute also assisted in creating the masterpiece.
Speaking about the tribute, Pattnaik described Dharmendra as “an emotion for millions,” recalling his extraordinary six-decade-long career spanning more than 300 films. Popularly remembered as Bollywood’s He-Man, Dharmendra delivered timeless performances in classics like Sholay, Phool Aur Patthar, and Chupke Chupke. His iconic dialogues—“Kutte, kamine, main tera khoon pi jaaunga!” and “Basanti, in kutton ke saamne mat nachna!”—remain unforgettable pop culture moments across generations.
“This artwork is a humble salute to his unmatched contribution to Indian cinema,” Pattnaik said, adding that Dharmendra’s legacy will continue to inspire millions of fans, filmmakers, and artists.
Visitors and fans gathered at the beach to witness the sculpture, many offering flowers and prayers, turning the site into a heartfelt memorial for the star who defined an era of Indian cinema.
