Sand Artist Celebrates Yoga With Sculpture

Sudarsan Pattnaik Creates Sand Sculpture of PM Modi at Puri Beach to Mark International Yoga Day
Renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik marked International Yoga Day with a captivating sand sculpture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi performing Ustrasana (Camel Pose) on Puri Beach, Odisha, on Friday. The artwork, standing five feet tall, carried the inspiring message: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
Crafted using around 4.5 tonnes of sand, the sculpture is a tribute to the transformative power of yoga, not just as a form of physical fitness but as a holistic approach to life. Pattnaik was assisted by students from his sand art institute in creating the elaborate piece, which drew crowds of beachgoers and yoga enthusiasts.
“Yoga is a spiritual journey that connects body, mind, and soul while harmonizing us with nature,” said Pattnaik. “It promotes inner peace, a healthier lifestyle, and a deeper awareness of the world around us.”
He emphasized that meditation—an integral part of yoga—enhances self-awareness and clarity, enabling individuals to make better life choices and contribute to a more peaceful society.
Pattnaik’s tribute to yoga and Prime Minister Modi reflects the global recognition of yoga as a vital tool for well-being, particularly in light of the Prime Minister’s efforts to popularize International Yoga Day worldwide.
Having participated in over 65 international sand art festivals and competitions, Pattnaik has earned global acclaim for his work, consistently using his art to promote messages of peace, health, and environmental consciousness. His latest creation once again showcases the unique fusion of artistry and advocacy that has made him a cultural icon.
