Rourkela Steel Plant Reports Record Output

Rourkela Steel Plant Achieves Record Production in April-May 2025

The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has registered exceptional performance across several key production areas in the first two months of the 2025–26 financial year, marking a strong start to the fiscal.

According to an official release from RSP, Blast Furnace-5 ‘Durga’ produced 552,027 tonnes of hot metal during April and May 2025 — its best-ever April-May performance, reflecting a 23.8 percent growth over the corresponding period last year (CPLY).

In the steel-making segment, Continuous Casting Machine-3 (CCM-3) also delivered a record-breaking performance, producing 292,371 tonnes of slabs, an increase of 24.5 percent over the previous year.

The sinter plants collectively produced 1,198,655 tonnes of sinter, showing a growth of 11.1 percent over the CPLY. Notably, Sinter Plant-III stood out by achieving its highest-ever April-May output with 629,110 tonnes of sinter.

The plant’s downstream facilities continued this trend of excellence. The Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) rolled 435,234 tonnes of hot-rolled (HR) coils, marking its best April-May performance and registering a 16.8 percent growth over the previous year.

Additionally, the Sheet Shearing Line of HSM-2 contributed significantly by producing 45,316 tonnes of HR sheets, setting another best-ever April-May record.

Officials at RSP attributed the stellar performance to improved operational efficiency, effective coordination among departments, and a focused approach toward production targets.

The consistent growth in output across multiple production units positions RSP strongly for the rest of the fiscal year, reinforcing its role as a key contributor to India’s steel production and industrial development.
